About me

I am a highly experienced systemic family psychotherapist and supervisor, with over 25 years’ experience working with children, young people and their families in child and adolescent mental health services in the NHS and privately.

I also have extensive experience working with couples where there are relationship difficulties, including issues around trust, communication and intimacy. This includes couples who remain committed to each other but seek to improve their relationship, but also ‘last chance couples’ where separation is an option if things do not improve.

A particular area of my work is working with men individually, perhaps when their mood is low and they seek ideas and strategies to help with this as well as a space to talk things over. It can also include supporting men who feel stuck or overwhelmed in their relationships with their partners and perhaps also other areas of their lives. Many of the men I see care deeply about their partners and families, but feel unsure how to respond to emotional needs or conflict. They may feel criticised, shut down, or that they “get it wrong” despite their best intentions. Together, we work to make sense of these patterns and build confidence in finding constructive and authentic ways to respond

I also enjoy working with families with ‘adult children’, where there can often be very different ideas about what the 'real' problems are. Sometimes family members are estranged or close to being so. In these situations, it can be helpful to meet together so that different perspectives can be heard and understood, leading to new ways for relationships in the family to move forward.

I have a extensive experience in helping families where there is a child or young person facing difficulties, including those associated with anxiety, depression, autistic spectrum conditions, ADHD, adoption or challenging behaviour. My focus is both on the child or young persons world and experience but also on the relationships and patterns of interaction that exist in the family.
